How to Purchase an Eco-Friendly Toilet

Tomorrow morning, I am going to the local home improvement store to purchase an eco-friendly toilet. While this may seem like a run-of-the-mill purchase to you, it is a major thought provoking purchase for me. Why? Because every home improvement I am making is going to be eco-friendly. To find out what criteria I should be looking for, I hunted around on the Internet. I found it on a website called Vintage Tub and Bath (www.vintagetub.com). Here is their criteria for purchasing a toilet for green living.

"Toilets must meet criteria in the following areas to be considered water efficient: 1) effective flush volume shall not exceed 1.28 gallons 2) solid waste removal must be 350 grams or greater 3) the toilet must conform to the adjustability and other supplementary requirements. The WaterSense program was designed by the US Environmental Protection Agency to encourage water efficiency in the US through the use of a special label (which is featured above on the page) on consumer products. WaterSense-rated faucets and faucet accessories are high performing water efficient fixtures."

This is what I am setting out to find tomorrow. I will be limiting my choices to Kohler and American Standard brands because of their high consumer satisfaction ratings. They also manufacture toilets which meet the above criteria.  I will update you tomorrow on my choice.

What is Green?

Greetings! It is the 2nd day of January, 2013. It has been a while since I posted in this blog. I plan on posting quite a bit and gain lots of followers. My purpose in creating this blog was to raise awareness of all the cool things out there that are easy to use and are "green" in nature. For a long time, I have held an interest in hydrogen technology and don't really understand why this type of technology has not been pushed more. I come from a science background, and believe we can harness hydrogen to provide new energy for cars. All it would take is a bottle of water to propel your car with the hydrogen ions within the water molecule itself. Mind you, hydrogen can be very powerful (think about hydrogen bombs). This would be a very new and green technology.

This brings to mind the question, "What is green?"What do you consider as green? Is it solar panels? Hybrid cars? Using cloth diapers instead of disposable? Is it saving rain water to water plants? What does "going green" mean to you? Think about it and get back to me.

Happy Earth Day! This is the Green Revolution!

Happy Earth Day everyone. My name is Green Girl and this is the Green Revolution. I am creating this blog in order to educate and hopefully make a difference in the way the public sees the need to go "green", whether it be in transportation, eating, where we live, etc. I will be posting lots of great information that is not widely known so that we can all work to conserve and hopefully someday soon, lower the amount of greenhouse gases that we are emitting everyday. I don't want to live in a world that is dying and dependant upon oil rich countries to survive. We need to create jobs, clean energy, etc. The United States is supposed to be the greatest country in the world, so why aren't we leading the pack in clean energy technology????
